Artist's Statement

In December 2024, a masked vigilante shot and killed United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson in midtown Manhattan. What followed-- a collective understanding and empathy from average Americans around the motivation behind the killing, and an overwhelming allocation of law enforcement resources to catching the perpetrator while other, similar crimes languish unsolved indefinitely-- was a testament to the horrifying state of healthcare in the US and the commitment of law enforcement to protect only the wealthy.

Our healthcare system exists not to provide medical care for those who need it but to generate profits for shareholders. Our judicial system exists not to protect our communities but to ensure that those in power are never held accountable.

But we are not powerless. The actions of a single vigilante brought a collective outcry against a system that has gone unchecked for decades. It is time to stand together against governance by greed and demand a system that values human life above profit.

We are not special. We are LEGION.
